The Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes on the 11 February. It is also the World Day of Prayer for the Sick so we are invited to pray especially for the sick and those who look after them. This year, the Message of Pope Francis echoes the words of the Good Samaritan: “Take care of him” (Luke 10:35) as he calls on us to take care of the vulnerable, the weak and the sick as the Samaritan looked after the injured man.
This day is also an occasion to receive the Sacrament of the Sick. The sacrament is administered to the elderly, those who are seriously sick and those who are facing surgery. It includes prayers for the sick and anointing with holy oils.
On Sunday, 12 February, Fr. Peter will offer the Sacrament of the Sick during the 11 o’ clock Mass. He says, “If you feel you will benefit, feel free to come forward”.
