CHILDREN´S MASS AND TALK

Sunday, 6th. March

Once a month, the children of the parish, under the guidance of Sr. Florence, play a major role in the Liturgy. They distribute the readings and hymn books to people before Mass, do the readings and intercessory prayers, bring up the offertory gifts with their parents, collect the money and sing.

On Sunday, 6th. March, Mass and church coffee were followed by a talk from parishioner and craftsman, Ole Jacob Nielsen. He shared about his faith: how and why he became a Catholic, and how his faith inspires his woodwork and vice-versa. The desire of Jesus for unity amongst his followers; the authortiy he bestowed on Peter as the rock on which he would build his Church; and the belief in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist featured largely in his faith journey. He also shared how his love, knowledge and understanding of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, developed and deepend when he spent three months carving, "Our Lady of Kirkjubøur", which is to be found in our church, and which is inspired by the original now located in the National Museum, Tórshavn.

While Ole Jacob was busy engaging a large group of very interested parishioners, Sr. Florence animated Sunday school for the children. Amonst other things, they learned to pray the Our Father, using sign language.
